1. Quality Requirements for Automotive PCB
The working environment of automotive electronics is harsh: high temperature, high humidity, vibration, and electromagnetic interference are everywhere. Any circuit board failure may bring safety risks. Therefore, automotive printed circuit assembly must meet the following standards:
(1) High Tg FR-4 material
- Tg value: 170°C~180°C
- Application scenarios: car audio, car display, motor control board, general ECU
- Advantages: low cost, mature process, better heat resistance than ordinary FR-4
- Limitations: not suitable for long-term working environment with extremely high temperature (>180°C)
(2) Polyimide material
- Temperature resistance: 250°C for a long time, 400°C for a short time
- Application scenarios: engine compartment controller (ECU), high temperature environment BMS, brake system
- Advantages: excellent heat resistance, bending resistance, chemical corrosion resistance
- Disadvantages: high cost, difficult processing
(3) Metal substrate ( such as aluminum-based, copper-based)
- Heat resistance: above 300°C
- Application scenarios: LED headlights, electric vehicle power modules (IGBT), charging pile control boards
- Advantages: excellent thermal conductivity, fast heat dissipation, suitable for high power output
- Disadvantages: limited mechanical design, not suitable for complex circuits
(4 ) Ceramic PCB (ceramic substrate, alumina/aluminum nitride/silicon nitride)
- Heat resistance: 600~800°C
- Application scenarios: electric vehicle IGBT power modules, power converters, radar systems
- Advantages: excellent thermal conductivity, electrical insulation and high temperature resistance, high reliability
- Disadvantages: expensive, brittle, complex processing
(5 ) PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, Teflon substrate)
- Heat resistance: above 200°C
- Application scenarios: vehicle-mounted radar (77GHz), ADAS high-frequency communication module
- Advantages: excellent dielectric properties, low frequency loss, strong thermal stability
- Disadvantages: poor mechanical strength, high price
